Family Tree Maker for Mac - by Ancestry Review by ReadyToGiveUpOnThis, Jun 19, 2014

  1. Family Tree Maker (FTM) has been through more than a few twists and turns over the last year. In Dec 2015, Ancestry announced that it would no longer sell or support its popular genealogy program and many thought FTM was done for. Shortly after, however, it was announced that Software MacKiev, the maker of Family Tree Maker’s Mac version, would be taking over the program.
  2. Older editions only - ftm 2014.1 for windows, ftm 3.1 for mac, and earlier Back in March 2017, we announced together with Ancestry the retirement of TreeSync® and its replacement with FamilySync®. It was also announced that going forward, Ancestry connection services like sync, Ancestry hints, search and merge would be available only in FTM 2017.

I used to love using Family Tree Maker for Mac 2. I never had any of the issues other people write about. Syncs always ran fine and never experienced crashes. That all changed when Family Tree Maker for Mac 3 was released. After reading all the reviews, I decided NOT to upgrade to Mac 3 version. The Mac2 version was working well enough.
However, ever since Mac 3 was released, It seems the software developer completely forgot about supporting the previous versions. I cannot connect to the internet (says-no internet connection) even thought there is a connection alive and well working for every other piece of code on my computer. I cannot download my Ancestry.com tree (no connection again) even though, after uninstalling and reinstalling, the program had no problems downloading software updates from the internet.

I wonder, is this their (unsuccessful) way of forcing people off FTM Mac2 and onto FTM Mac3?

Service Alert

Internet

Around 1:30 p.m. MT on Monday, June 16, 2014, attackers targeted Ancestry with a Distributed Denial of Service attack (DDoS). The Ancestry websites are still recovering from this attack.
Family Tree Maker Search and Tree Sync features have been disabled until site stability has been fully restored. Our team is actively working on restoring these to full service.
Thank you for your patience as we continue to work through bringing the sites back up to full capacity.

This explains all connectivity and sync issues I experienced this past week with FamilyTreeMaker for Mac2. I hope this is resolved soon.

Still no help with FTM2 for Mac. There is a connection now, but the sync feature is still non-existent.

One other little thing worries me: I decided to delete all (but one) online tree. I noticed other people are having problems deleting their tree because it won’t accept their current user password. I was able to delete my trees by using my OLD password. This is cause for concern. It tells me they probably had to restore member information from an old backup! Was there a security breach somewhere? Has the personal information of all relatives marked as ‘living’ been compromised? I hope they address our security concerns in their next post.
